Hi there!
My first APC in a very long time also fist post in this forum, so my apology in advance, if this has been answered.
I recently bought a SMT1000RMI2UC and AP9630 to go in it. They both seem to be working file as their own but I cannot talk to the UPS from the client using apcupsd. I tried with pfSense and also a from a vanilla Ubuntu (18.04) but all resulted in the same thing.
So, this is my apcupsd.conf:
The service seems start okay but within a min or so, I get the message saying communication has been lost:
and the STATUS is always COMMLOST:
Thing to note that I'm using PCNET over Ethernet (as opposed to directly USB-attached). All the firmware are updated to it's latest:
Does anyone know what am I doing wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Doesn't look like the card or UPS is faulty, right?

Hi Gavan, thanks for your reply!
I figured out last night why it was not working. I think, how it's supposed to work not really documented clearly, at least I didn't find out....... but scattered around in this forum discussions and the some of the docs. First of all, for the PCNET type, it uses pass/auth phrase instead of password and that needs to defined in the NMC web-gui, which is placed in rather odd-place: under Configuration > Shutdown
re. https://www.se.com/uk/en/faqs/FA159659/
That user (e.g. netman, which I setup as a network-only user) must be created first. PCNS uses both the password & pass-phrase for that user and APCUPSD uses only the pass-phrase. After that both started working.

Hi Santanu,
APCUPSD is a third party software so I can't help you with that, but what I would recommend is that you look at Powerchute Network Edition. PCNS supports Ubuntu and may other types of Linux, you can download it from the link below:
