Cannot remove Smart UPS front bezel to replace batteries

Unit is DLA 1500 (Dell-branded SUA 1500), S/N AS0822122326,
tower, purchased 12/2008.

Directions in manual; show picture of fingers pressing the indents
on each side of the bezel. Nothing budges. What am I missing?
