i moved your thread to the correct area.
• Can you confirm what the cable part number you've tried is (it should be engraved on the DB-9 connector)?
• What port settings have you tried?
• Where is the cable connected?
• What model of management card is this?
• What model of UPS is this?
• What color is the status LED on the network management card and it is it solid or flashing? (the status LED is the one with a checkmark or X next to it)
have you taken a look at the knowledge base at all? http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/ -> review article ID FA156064

Hi There,
The card is an AP9617, the cable is 940-0625A, the UPS is SMT3000RMI2U
I have tried a different card in case. I am trying with this cable via hyperterminal at Various Configs in case eg 2,400 9,6000 No flow, XonXoff etc. etc. etc.
I have tried with the Wizard Utility and the ManageEngine Ops manager as well as Powerchute
all of those I have tried both on the RJ45 port to serial on Laptop on the UPS itself and from the Card itself to the laptop
I am currently trying a cross over but to no avail.
FUnny thing is when I connect to the lan the switch does see the Mac address but that all of course

Unfortunately, the card that you have (AP9617) is not compatible with our SMT/SMX units. If you want to have network functionality with the SMT/SMX you will need to upgrade to our Network Management Card 2 series (AP9630/AP9631).

hope you see this today. Thank so far appreciate you feedback.
Steve
all smt and smx will use ap9630/31
all sua2200rmi2u will use ??
all sua500rmi2u will use ??
all su1400 rmx ib 3u will use ??
all dla2200rmi2u will use ??
all dla1500rmi2u will use ??
What I probably should be asking you is "Are the AP9630/31 backward compatible"

yes, AP9630/31 are backwards compatible and support all applications of AP9617/18/19 except for the Silcon UPS (which uses the app name dp3e). AP9617/18/19 were discontinued prior to SMT/SMX release is the way I usually explain this as well, so they were not developed to support the newer, later released units.
