Can't see SUA1500RM2U in powerchute software

I just acquired a APC Smartups SUA1500RM2U and my powerchute software cannot recognize it with either the USB cable or the simple signaling serial cables. I have a Smartups SC1500 and that communicates fine. I have installed new batteries and bench tested it, and it works flawlessly. With the exception that it is not recognized in the powerchute software.

Thanks

Hi,

You cannot make any adjustments to a SUA Smart-UPS using a simple signaling cable. You will need the Smart signaling cable part number 940-0024 or 940-1524. Simple signaling is one way communications from UPS to the OS. Smart signaling is two way communications.

With USB when attaching the cable under device manager you should see in Batteries and APC UPS. If that driver is loaded PowerChute should communicate with the Smart-UPS. If the driver is loaded and communication is not established you should click on the driver and reload it. Kbase FA164514 discusses loading USB drivers.

Hi,

Are you connecting both UPS at the same time? If so that is not supported. Also, depending on the model Smart-UPS SC you may need to uninstall and reinstall PowerChute for it to recognize the SUA. When the SC is connected look in about what Agent version is installed?

I don't have the smartups SC1500 on the network or connected to the PC with the powerchute software. Nothing is recognized when the SUA is connected. I tried both cables, but not together! It also is seen (USB) in the device manager in windows 7.

I don't have much experience with these APC's or this software but I am suprised that when the SC1500 was recognized and seemed to work well with the software, that the SUA1500RM2U was not recognized.

Also I connected (USB) the SUA1500 to my NAS server (synology) and it recognized it. That at least tells me the APC is communicating.

Skip,

What is the OS and what version of the Powerchute installer are you runnng?

Note: Once you have connected a system to the SUA via USB to switch communication back to Serial comm you must reset the UPS.

To reset

1) Turn off and unplug UPS from wall
2) Press and hold the OFF button again
3) You may see a quick flash of the LED's and you should hear an audible "click" from the UPS.
4) Plug UPS back into the wall and turn UPS back on

I have tried to reset this APC a number of times and tried individually each cable, the simple signaling cable with serial on one end and USB on the other and a standard USB cable connection.

Its kind of strange as I have an older DL3000RM3U and Smartups SC1500 and they communicates fine with the simple signaling cable. I am using a Windows 7 Ultimate OS and using the web agent on Powerchute Business Edition v9.0.3.604

I just want to silence the alarm when on battery!
