Business Edition Power Chute Questions

I have several questions concerning the Business Edition of Power Chute.

With it installed on a lap top running Windows 10...

1. We have several different models. Will this work on all of them or are there some it won't work on? (SMT1000, SUA2200RM2U, SU1400RMXLB3U, SURTA2200RMXL2U, SMX2000RMLV2U)

2. Which cable is better to use, the serial, usb/RJ45 or USB?

3.Will one cable work for all UPS's?

4. If I plug a cable in but it doesn't see the UPS, how do I know if it's the cable, network card, or something else?

5. If all I'm wanting to do is see what kind of load is on the UPS and how long it will run when the power goes out for any number of UPS's. Is the business edition what I should be using/

6. If I can get it to work, when I plug into a UPS, will I have to reinstall the software or will it automatically see it?

7. Are there instructional videos somewhere that could show me how to run the software so I can make sure I've installed it correctly?

Thanks

Yes and no. PowerChute Business Edition is compatible with all of those Smart-UPS but you need different versions depending on the model. SMT, SMX will communicate with PowerChute Business Edition version 9.2. SU, SUA, SURTA models will communicate with version 9.0.3. Both version are included in the installer and when the installer is run it determines the proper version base on the connected UPS. Example, if you attach SMT1000 when the installer is run version 9.2 will be installed. If you then connect the SUA2200RM2U the UPS will not be discovered. You will need to uninstall version 9.2 and install 9.0.3.

Depends on the model. SU1400RMXL is serial only comm while the other support both serial and USB.

No.

Difficult to say since all of the Smart-UPS are different.

Business Edition will provide that information but remember you need the Business Edition Agent communicating with the UPS and the Agent can only communicate with a single UPS at a time.

If you are switching between compatible UPS you should stop the PowerChute Service then connect to the UPS and restart the Service. If the UPS is not compatible with the installed version then comm will not be established and describe in answer to #1

This is perfect. Thank you so much. I'm also thinking that I will need to install not only with each different UPS but if I'm on a different network as well.

Thanks again.

Is there a list of UPSs that a particular version will work with or do I just try it and if it doesn't see it, uninstall the version I have a reinstall the program again?

Hi,

SMT, SMX, SRT, SMC, and SURTD model Smart-UPS use PowerChute Business Edition 9.2. Any other Smart-UPS will use version 9.0.3.

BTW: There is versions 9.2.1 and 9.0.4 available attached to this FAQ FA304446 These versions have an updated version of java.
