Battery Fault after configuring External Battery Cabinet Capacity

Hello!

I currently operate two Smart-UPS 20Kva units, both have an extra XLBP connected. They have been running since since last year with no issues. Last week, i noticed that the "External Battery Cabinet" field was empty, so i searched for the AMP-Hour capacity of the XLBP(3840 per the documentation) and configured it on both devices. After that i ran a run time calibration on both devices, and the runtime almost doubled, which is great. The weird part is that both devices reported a battery fault, this has never happened before. Did i configure something wrong? Both devices were installed in March '14, and both run at 5~20% load, never higher.

Then what i did was wrong, now i'm curious here, when should i populate the "External Battery Cabinet:  Amp-Hour" field, and what information goes in there? Does it even apply to my devices?

Thank you Bill for taking your time to answer!

Hi,

The battery packs are intelligent so the UPS should say "Batteries increased" on the screen when they are attached. If there is an error you should run a self-test to see if the error clears. If the error does not clear it is possible one of the batteries need to be replaced and you should contact local support for assistance.

Bill,

I can't recall if we actually saw a message like that, but if the batteries are in fact intelligent, they should have been noticed by the UPS. Thing is, i should be seeing 16 batteries and not 8, but thats what i'm getting on both the units i have. Is this correct?

Battery
Capacity: 100.0 %
Nominal Battery Voltage: 192.0 VDC
Actual Battery Bus Voltage: 218.9 VDC
Battery Current: +0000.1 Amps
Batteries: 8

Hi,

The batteries are smart and should be discovered by the UPS when connected. It can take 2 - 4  minutes to auto discover. If they do not then the connector is not full engaged.

The battery number is correct. There are 4 sets of 2 battery packs in a series per cabinet so with 2 cabinets the total is 8 batteries.

That is where it got confusing, there are 8 RBCs on each battery encasing, but they are accounted as four batteries per case then?
