Hi All,
We have an older SmartUPS 2200XLINET that I replaced the batteries on last month. After running a self test battery replacement LED finally went out, but the UPS still reports that the batteries are discharged:
Discharged Battery
The battery power is too low to support the load; if power fails, the UPS will be shut down immediately.
I've read various forum posts and blogs that suggest either asking APC for a calibration key (we're well out of warranty though), using APCFix (unsupported) or resetting the battery constant using a serial connection. I'm not sure what the "correct" procedure is though, so could someone suggest the best solution?
Thanks,
Phil.

Ok - normally, we'd suggest a manual calibration which means putting a 30% (most likely non critical load) on the UPS that does not fluctuate more than 5% and running the UPS on battery until it turns off. You'd most likely want to remove the management card and make arrangements for any devices that have powerchute software running on them.
The other option is to adjust the UPS battery constants via serial cable (which also requires the management card to be removed). I can't really post the instructions here but I'll direct message them to you if that is the route you want to go. I've never used APCfix myself

The first thing we should verify is what the low battery signaling time is set to? it sounds like this message is coming from a Network Management Card - is that correct? if so, this setting should be listed under the UPS configuration options for shutdown. On newer firmware, check under UPS->Configuration->Shutdown within your management card web interface and let me know what it is set to.
I also need to know the total runtime reported by the UPS.
Thanks.

Hi Angela,
Thanks so much for taking the time to help.
- Yes, the message I'm seeing is reported in the web server of the management card.
- The low battery duration setting is set to 02 minutes.
- The runtime remaining is reported as 2 minutes whilst the reported battery capacity is 100% and the load is reported as 23.9%.
Thanks, and hope this helps.
Phil.

Hi Angela,
Can I try the serial cable route? Its a little tricky to arrange for the load from this UPS to be disconnected and the runtime calibration to be done because it's a remote site with limited access out of hours.
Thanks,
Phil.

Hi, I have the same problem after I repalced the dischaged batteries on my Smart-UPS 1000 XL.
Would you send me a copy of instruction to adjust the UPS battery constants via serial cable?
BTW , Can I remove the management cart without shutting down the UPS?
