Bad Battery or Bad UPS or both?

I have the SMX3000RMLV2UNC, and when I try to run a self-test it says "Refused", cause "internal fault". The UPS log reports separately "At least one faulty battery exists".

Is the APC refusing a self-test because the battery is bad? Or is the UPS itself also bad? I tried unplugging the unit for a few minutes and disconnecting the battery and nothing changed.

I upgraded the UPS and management card firmware without problems. I know the battery is bad, but is the UPS bad too?

That is the only error/warning on the log screen. I just had thought that the self-test saying internal fault meant my UPS was faulty. Good to hear its okay, thanks.

"At least one battery Fault exists" represent battery is faulty.  So u have to order and replace the new battery then the alarm will be reset & try to do the self test.

Do u have any other logs on the Screen? If not, then only battery will be faulty & UPS will be normal Condition.
