Automatic installation of Power Chute Network software (Redhat Linux)

Hello !

We are planning to install two identical systems comprising, each, 7 Lenovo System X servers, a Quantum LTO robot, network equipment and, of course, a Smart-UPS 3000 ups.

We also plan to install the operating system and application automatically.

Is there a way to install and configure the PowerChute software automatically ? What files should we prepare and where should we deposit them in order for the software to run at first start ?

Hi,

We offer silent installation of the application. With silent installation you run the installer once and save a installation file along with configuration file with the required settings. When ready to deploy you can edit each file to deploy PCNS. The installation guide discusses silent installation.

From one of the already .ini file, I'll gather all the values needed and produce the silent installation configuration files for my servers.

Here I am again.

I have created the answer file but have a problem with the authentication phrase.

# Fill in the below fields with the correct security information.
# The Administrator User Name and Authentication Phrase must match
# the settings of the Management Card in your UPS.

USERNAME=apc
PASSWORD=apc
AUTHENTICATION_PHRASE=

The documentation state that one can leave this field blank and the phrase will revert to the default. Alas the installer complains because it is not defined.

I've a problem because I do not know how to set/get this pass phrase and I do not know what is the default phrase.

I'll be delighted to get a mean to set a custom phrase or the default phrase set in the management card.

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience. the default user name, password, and authentication phrase are listed on page 4 of the PowerChute installation guide (see below) and in FAQ FA159659. 

"In the NMC, the default administrator user name and password are both apc, while the default setting for the authentication phrase is admin user phrase. We recommend that you change the defaults for security reasons."
