What is the risk of adding a PDU to a Symmetra LX with the unit powered on? I currently have a blank plate so I'd just be installing a new PDU, not removing an existing one.
I installed the current 2 PDU's when I first set up the unit and didn't have any problems at all hooking them up (the unit was de-energized). It seems like it would be easy to connect up the new PDU without connecting the wrong ends or them touching, or touching them.
I ask because taking my UPS all the way down to install the new PDU would be a big deal and if possible, I'd like to avoid it. I know that APC says that the unit must be unplugged and off, I just want to know if that is truly necessary.
Thank you!

Having swapped/installed some PDU's in our pair of LX's, I would say categorically that you are playing with fire if you attempt a hot PDU install. It is a bit of a wrestling match with the two or sometimes three molex connectors that provide the AC off the backplane - getting them plugged in, then tucking or jamming them into a very tight space and then screwing the PDU into place. You could accidentally touch one of the output receptacle contacts against the metal edge of the PDU opening and boom - you've got a short to ground - or your body.
Don't take the chance !

The risk is only having either 120, 208 or 240 VAC running through your body. Those wires are live, regardless if connected or not. APC will not be liable for any damage caused by installing a PDU Backplate into a Symmetra while the UPS remains on.

Thanks for the feedback. Exactly what I wanted to know. I'll just need to figure out how to shut it off to install. Thanks again.
