We are having issues with this UPS at a customer. We have set up that if power is disconnected then it shuts down after 2 minutes. The issue is we do want the customer to have the option to start up their machine again off the UPS while there is no mains on it or if it does we want it to shut down gracefully again after 2 minutes. At the moment the UPS just runs until the battery dies. The problem with this is that it is enclosed in a tight space and gets very hot. Can we stop the UPS restarting or make it turn off by itself.

Hi,
If you install PowerChute Personal Edition on the Windows 7 system it can be configured to power down the OS when the UPS goes on battery. Once that happens the UPS will wait approximately 2 minutes and then power it self down. When AC / Mains is restored the UPS will power back up and if the computers BIOS (see Kbase FA159550) has been configured properly the OS will restart. If you do not want the computer to restart until someone pushes the power on button the BIOS can be configured to do that.
If you are asking if there is a way to prevent a user from turning the UPS on when there is no AC / Mains the answer is no. If a user want to turn the UPS on when there is no AC / Mains that is a conscience decision. The units are designed to do that to allow a user to power up the UPS in a situation where AC / Mains are not available but power is required for a short period of time.

Hi,
Is there a computer system connected to the UPS and if so what OS. There are software programs that can be used to do what you would like. If there is not a computer attached than I recommend replacing the Back-UPS 650 with a SMT750. You can configure the SMT to load shed. When AC is lost the SMT will run on battery and then shut down. When AC is restored it will power back up and restore AC to the load.

Yes a windows 7 pc is connected to it. If there is a mains fault it does a safe shutdown but once it is shut down the customer can just turn the machine back on even if there is no mains and it will run until the battery dies. Is there a way of stopping it from starting until it has mains power
