Hi all,
Hope the right people find this post amongst all the 'noise' in the board during silly season, or does this happen frequently, that the aimless zombie bots ruin it for people trying to make sense?
Anyway, here in Australia I am at work on a Sunday Evening and am very keen to know if the ageing Smart UPS's in the small data centre I care for can be replaced by; APC Smart-UPS RT 6000VA 230V (SURT6000XLI).
My question is: Can this UPS return to online operation after an extended outage.
The reason we took out a smaller Symmetra was because the staff preferred not to go up into the data centre after a power fail and turn the UPS on.
Can the UPS I am enquiring about, via Powerchute return to Online operation once utility power is restored after network shutdown as the Smart UPS's do.
As an aside, the utility power fails sometimes up to three times per weekend (after hours) and on Sunday for example, at least twice per year there is say a six hour outage as the Utility Company puts in "more poles and wires" to fix whatever non existent load reason they can think of to charge more for the product they are flogging.
So, the staff arrive from 7AM on Monday and the network is off and they call me to fix it, however I live 60KM away and they aren't happy.

Hi iFix,
That's a bit out of my depth. Maybe someone else on here can pipe in. Alternatively you can call APC sales support which has experience speccing UPSes to meet regional requirements.

Hi voidstar - many thanks for the diligence in configuring the a custom DST window and schedule, most appreciated!
The device seems solid compared to the AP9617's!

Thank you voidstar - really helpful.
Now another question; as my client is considering the outlay of money to buy this dual conversion UPS.
Thank you.

Both the SmartUPS RT and the Symmetra should be able to turn back on after a power failure. And Symmetras are nice machines. I don't have one at the moment to check, but I'd log into the network management card and look for a setting regulating behavior on power outage. I'd also check the return delay and minimum return runtime to see how long it's set to charge the batteries before turning back on.

Thank you voidstar - most appreciated.
Great to be back conversing about APC UPS's as they are probably my most favoured technology.
1/ Thank you for the KB article, it has been upgraded by SE significantly since I last visited this topic. The interesting extract from the KB article is the common mode surges for some SMPS's and it is this that triggers the fault at times I reckon, so an ELCB that has a small delay to compensate for this aspect, yet trip if a fault is found to exist would be the solution.
2/ I remember the wiring detector on the Symmetra, all clear from what I can recall, which would be correct because it was the daily power on that brought it down, not a steady leakage of any kind due to mis-wiring or component failure. Yes the bank of ELCB's are after the current UPS's.
3/ To trigger the problem in an AP9617 I would set a Custom Schedule to switch to DST (Summer time) on the first Sunday of October // end on the first Sunday April. The time was never altered, it remained on Standard time and the update had to be done manually, it caused a few problems with the change of time Zones.
My work around is really clunky; I created an FTP task to swap config.ini files in the card(s) affected then seek a NTP lookup, seems to work but pretty flaky way to have the time zone correct.
