I'm looking at getting a Smart-UPS 5000VA to protect the kit in our rack... this is the 240v UK model and requires a hardwired connection with a maximum of 32A.
We currently have 2 16A commando type sockets in the server room and I was wondering as we arent going to be drawing more than 3100 Watts would a 16A connection be suitable for the UPS or do I need to get a 32A supply installed into the server room?
Any help would be appreciated!
Matt

Another quick question regarding this unit, do i actually have to have it hardwred to the branch circuit or could i hardwire a commando plug lead to the UPS and then connect to this an existing 16A commando socket?

Should be fine but take into account efficiency and approx 10% of UPS rating for the recharge draw after mains failure. Also realise if someone plugs test equipment etc you may trip it whereas you prob wouldn't with the 32a supply.

I thought that would be the case, i had already factored most of this in, typical draw is approx 2400W and I added 600W for battery replacement scenarios and rounded up to 3100W..... if my calculations are right a 16A commando should be good for 3680W @ 240V..... I just wanted someone else to verify that what I thought was right is indeed right! lol.... Cheers!
