Hi, I have an APC Smart-UPS 2200VA RM 2U 230V (SUA2200RMI2U) that's been in storage with no batteries for a while. I'm now hoping to get new batteries and use it, but wanted to check it was still functional before purchasing the batteries. I connected it to AC power and pressed the "On / Test" button ... and nothing, no lights at all on the front panel.
Will the unit power up with no batteries connected, or does it require them to start?
Thanks,
Hannah

No.

It needs the batteries to fire up the internal power supply, which then starts the charging process from the mains which will continue to sustain the unit when the battery is disconnected.

Thanks for the info Brad 🙂 I'll go ahead and order the replacement batteries and hope all is well with the unit.
