APC SMART 3000XL - No RUNTIME Information

Hello,

I have a problem with and UPS SMART 3000XL no showing RUN TIME information. The UPS has three batteries attached (and is showing charge information). The problem began after installing the additional batteries modules (2 additional modules). We try to complete discharge the UPS after installing the battery packs, but we are no getting any RUN TIME information. Could you please give me a suggestion of which process should I follow in order to have the RUN TIME information. Check attached PowerChute UPS status photos.

Hi Rafael -

It is important to first make sure that you have added the batteries in the Powerchute interface. You would then want to run a manual battery calibration. For this to be effective you will want to make sure that the batteries are 100% charged, at least a 30% load is attached to the UPS, and that the load does not fluctuate more than 5%. From there you can unplug the UPS from input power and allow it to fully drain until it drops the load. If the load is not over 30% or if you turn off the UPS before it drops the load, the runtime data will not be updated. Once the battery is fully drained and drops the load, plug the UPS back in and recharge to 100%. With 2 external batteries this could take up to 24 hours.

thanks,

Liam

Thats a common problem with RT units.   Remember there is no way for the UPS to really learn about runtime unless it actually does a self test or has a power loss.  Voltage readings are meaningless when the unit is on.

Best thing to do is disconnect the XR cabinets and put just the newest RBC battery trays in the main unit.  Then do a self test.  Once you have a good baseline, you can try adding more cabinets and trays.

For RT units, your runtime is based on your WORST battery as they are all connected.  Have one bad battery, you will have 0 runtime.
