To the best of my knowledge, you'll have to get the serial cable. That said, you can find the pinouts online to build your own. Or if you really need it now, to jam wires into the connector (easy to do on the UPS/management card side, hard to do on the computer/serial port side).

You should be able to set a temp IP address using arp. Does this link help?

Unfortunately, I do not know the MAC address so I can't really use that 😞

I actually just ordered a cable today. Problem I have is I that I will have to take down my whole home network to pull the card and the wife doesn't like that.

I've hot-swapped NMC-2 cards before without an issue. Not sure if this will work on the AP9617 however.

The combination of the UPS I have and the AP9617 does not support hot swapping 😞

Where did you see that stated? If it is an old user's guide, it may be outdated.
Refer to updated info here -> http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA156132
It will be fine to hot swap with your UPS and AP9617 combination.

I read that, c says you can only hit swap if your ground and power pins are longer then the communication pins. Looked at the eBay listing Shaun and it doesn't appear they are to me. I'll post a link when I'm back at m my desk.

Yes, the pins should be longer on all models of AP9617 as far as I know and have seen, even with really old manufacture dates. The picture in the ebay listing may also only be the top of the card/PCB and the pins are longer on the underside of the card only.
Either way, this may be a moot point if you got the serial cable (or made one). You could just log in and modify the boot mode and TCP/IP settings without removing the NMC from the UPS.

Pulled the card tonight, it did shut the fan off. Ended up smelling hot shortly after a while. Powered it off and the fan started up fine after words. However, so far the arp method is not working for me 😞

These days I just plug the card into a switch and run tcpdump. Sooner or later the card will make some request over the network and *boom* you have the MAC and the IP. Of course if someone has changed the default credentials then you're up the creek, but it's an easy way of picking up the relevant addresses.
