I have a question about firmware upgrades. For instance, I went to the following link, http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm, and looked for firmware for my SMT2200. What I eventually found via that link and applying the appropriate filters was a link to a file named "PowerNet MIB 4.1.7". In the past, I have always gone to your website and located a file named "FirmwareUpdateImages v4.1.zip" and have found the correct firmware files within that zip.
My question is, of what use is the "PowerNet MIB" file and how do I use it if I want to?
Thanks much!

Hi,
Powernet MIB (Management Information Base) and is used with SNMP. MIB - is a database of managed objects accessed by network management protocols. An SNMP MIB is a set of parameters which an SNMP management station can query or set in the SNMP agent of a network device. If you search (Google, Bing) SNMP you will find definition and uses.
If you are looking for firmware for the SMT2200 you will find that information in Kbase FA164737
If you are looking for the latest firmware for the NMC (Network Management Card) in the SMT2200 you will find that at this link

Bill,
Thanks for the information and the Kbase link. I guess I should have asked one additional question regarding the website download page and, specifically, the search returns the PowerNET MIB and does not include the Kbase link.
Why doesn't, or shouldn't, the search return both the PowerNet MIB and the KBase link to the firmware?
Of course, I may not be understanding the real purpose and intent of the firmware update page and I can live with that too.

Hi Joe,
I don't know if we have the capability to handle linking from the web page to the knowledge base (kbase). But, apc.com will be upgraded this year so maybe after that we (product managers who manage the content on the product pages) will have more flexibility.
UPS Firmware upgrades have historically been hosted in the kbase due to the complexity and abundance of frequent changing versions, instructions, etc. It is also a lot faster to modify and keep up to date.
There has been discussion of hosting it on the regular software/firmware downloads link but it becomes a little more difficult to manage that way for the reasons I just noted.
For now, Smart-UPS firmware upgrades will remain in the apc.com/support kbase and pretty much most other user firmware upgradeable items will be @ http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm with also some supplemental docs living in the kbase (how to upgrade, etc). Plus, UPS firmware upgrades for Smart-UPS was a relatively new concept originally so that is why it started in the kbase I think too. And has just remained there as it got more complex.
The SNMP MIB file download you found is very misleading as it is used with the Network Management Card for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) users. It is not used directly with the UPS and probably shouldn't be there. But, if an NMC user was looking for the SNMP MIB for their UPS model, it may be helpful. (But, the user would eventually find out all APC products, except NetBotz, use the same MIB file.) I could go either way on this topic of showing the MIB or not but this is not the first time someone has been confused either
Also, currently, as far as I know, apc.com search cannot see kbase articles. Only content on hosted directly on the page like product SKUs, sections of the website, etc. You have to go to the knowledge base and search in there specifically as you'll notice the URL change and it is a special repository where the articles are hosted on the back end. I think this is likely to change in the future to make what you tried less annoying and make one giant federated search available to end users.
