A few powerchute questions

I am researching a few apc management options for my companies clients and didn't feel APC gave me all the info I needed.

First: When a network shutdown initiates and is configured to shutdown exchange; how long will it take exchange to unload? From my experince this has taken upto 30 minutes before. Could I instead script an unload of services using pre-shutdown script capability to increase shutdown time?

Secondly: We have two dedicated circuits feeding into two apc's. We Have four servers with redundant power cross connected to each apc. Network shutdown is scheduled to start when the one apc reaches 15%. In the event of a circuit failure, Is there a way for a management program to know the difference between having one circuit down and the other up and not initiate shutdown. But recognize when both circuits are down and give the ok for the server shutdown?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Are you running PowerChute Business Edition Deluxe? Or are you trying to use a workaround to being able to support those .dll's for shutdown? To make sure the software is correctly reading the command file, for starters, ask it to call up a simple dos prompt and then check your Services to see if the dos prompt is running in the background. Secondly, you can initiate a command file to call your command file. That is a common problem in that the initial command file won't be read for some reason or another, and calling it from another command file will actually work.

Hope this sheds some light on the situation.

Thanks for the response. I am using Powerchute Business Free edition and I don't really want to spend 250$ on Deluxe if I don't have to. I run a home business so cash has value to me.

I was hoping that I could use the command file to shut down the services. Did you see any syntax errors in my file? I will try to run the file from another file.

Unfortunately, we do not have the time to test this until later in the week. However, I would still like to know the results of first calling just a command prompt, and making sure that works, and secondly, calling it from another command file, to see if that works. After that, I will install PCBE on one of the machines here and see if the syntax will execute the shutdown properly.

Powerchute can execute a script that you could use to manually stop the services required for your Exchange server. To configure this, you would log into the agent installed on the server running PCNS. You can enter the agent by typing http://ipaddress:3052 or http://127.0.0.1:3052 if local in your browser. From this page there are multiple events that can be configured to execute a command file. Here is a kbase that will help you configure the format required in your command file:

For your second question, you can perform a custom installation that will allow one PCNS client to speak with two different UPS's and wait for the shutdown signal from each UPS.
