Last night UPS died suddnely and again that cause unexpected network system down.
ytou could say there might have potential partial power spike,
but in the server room other UPSs and Servers systems which use same power circuit are all fine.
this UPS is SUA1500 (s/n AS0201110446) it may 5,6 years, yes it is old.
is that lifetime?
and Is that what we have when UPS lifetime come?
If UPS want to die please go alone, but do not take my servers and network systems.
even it lost battery supply it should no stop suppling power to client, I think.
I have ever had two SUA1500 died, I simply gave them up and through them away.
and this is third time of SUA1500.
I have 3,4 more they are connected to a critical storages.
I would be very grateful if anyone can give a right advise to me what should I do so as not have the 4th power down of my system using.

hi pulsar,
depending on what the failure is, i guess it is feasible that the UPS could have a problem which causes it to stop supplying output power. larger UPSs and different models have an automatic bypass built in to avoid these types of situations but this model in particular does not have it.
the alarms you can get for proactive monitoring can be configured and customized the way you like them in order to get notifications ASAP.

Wwallender,
Thank you for your comment.
I tried to replaced with a brand new RBC for that unit but no luck.
I did not give it another chance to be tried another brand new RBC. instead I put old one back.
after many strugling , (connect, disconnec, mount unmount) finally I dropped it from 1 inch hieght from the floor, and it get the light back on althogh it indicated Battery need replacement " .
I believe my supplyer sell us genuine APC RBCs unless the company logo labeled is a fake.
if this new RBC also faulty, if I cannot belive this what I cab do??
because I have to keep it for another 3 smart UPSs here running.
regards,E

dear i_picKed_a_winna ,
Thank you for your advise of monitoring.
yes, I agree that monitoring very important, and I must consider that for all 10-15 UPS runing here. they must alarm to my moblie 1 hour before it stop supplying power to the clients.
In the meantime, do not you think UPS should not stop supplying power to the equipment due to internal hardware error/lifetime of itself.?
(It is needless to say, it must guarantee battery Hotswap.)
Unforutnately, I cannot trust this particular model anymore and there are 3 more running here.

a typical UPS lifetime is 6-10 years depending on use, environment, etc. its very difficult to make any suggestions when we have no idea how it failed - are you sure just the battery did not due?. did you see any LEDs on the device while there was no output power? did it have any software or network management card in it where we could have logs to review?

Than you for your responce to my questions.
To answer your questions,
it is just black-out; It is not resonging to any operations, no sound no-lights, it is just likely dead.
it have been working for 5-6 years at the very stable location and air templature controled secure server room.

To add a comment to myself,
I would like to see, how I can know when Lifetime come. I am not sure whether it is lifetime or not.
But I think it is not the point. The point is that SUA1500 suddenly went blacked-out and this "Uninterruptible Power Supply" stoped power supply and this caused the network service distruption for 13 hours,
and the same thing should not happen again.
There are 3/4 more SUA1500i and 15 or more R/M type SUA750,1500,2200,3000 here protecting our computing facilites (very large system).
I have several issues with those other product but they have never stopped power supply to equpments ever.
I have experienced similar issues with SUA1500i, and that cases, I replaced with other spare unit rather than repairing.
but now I cannot trust SUA1500 anymore. and I need to replace all SUA1500 here with other prodcuts.

if you are not monitoring this with software or a network management card, you have to rely on someone walking by the unit daily or hearing beeping. i recommend monitoring this with software or a network management card so you can be aware of issues before it turns into a situation like this. with log files, etc we could have maybe figured out what occurred to re-enforce our assumptions if this was a battery issue or something else. i can only guess at what occurred - according to you - it just died but something could have been happening and we didn't know because it was not being monitored by software.
just a thought for your existing systems to have proactive notifications and monitoring to avoid future issues.

The battery is probably bad if a smart ups has cooked/bad batteries the unit will not do a single thing, no lights, no sound, dead as a rock.
The batteries only last 2-3 years, make sure to use only apc batteries, Smart upses last a long time, i have one going on 13 years
