Hey all, I'm hoping someone can give me some insight to see if this thing has a fighting chance...
I have an SUA3000RMXL3U (3000 XL rack mount) that will not turn on, I do not know if there is a problem with the unit itself as it was purchased in 2008 and never came out of its healthy looking box until now. I was hoping that someone might know if it just might be a bad battery or something simple.
The power to the unit itself is known-good: I have two NEMA L5-30R's side by side with a working Smart-UPS 3000 (non-XL) that can feed off of either of them without issue. Either of those sockets should be fine to power this unit, but no dice there. The plunger on the 3000 XL is set to on, but hitting the Test/Power On button does nothing. Is there a way to short the PCB at back maybe if it's just a bad button? In the troubleshooting guide it is suggested that this issue is either a battery not properly connected (doubtful here), the test button is not pushed (nope), or very low / no utility voltage (again nope). If it's just a bad battery, how risky would it be either buy a replacement battery for this is unit or temporarily connect my 3000 non-XL battery to the 3000-XL to see if it fires up (assuming the connectors are the same).
Any/all ideas welcome - thanks in advance!

Hi,
with my experience, the problem is deeply discharged batteries. You can try check if all of them have at least 12v. If any of them is lower than that, replacement is in order, as the UPS will refuse to start without good batteries

can you test the voltage on this battery? if it has been sitting since 2008 in its box, i am skeptical that the battery in the unit is good without a periodic recharge while it was sitting. as far as i know, this unit will not power on with no battery if it has been sitting "braindead." braindead is when the unit has had no power for at least 8-10 minutes which if it was in a box, well it has been braindead for a while now.
i would really suggest trying a fresh set of batteries in this unit or at a minimum, check the battery voltage with a meter if available.
based on the info provided here, i would personally try a new set of batteries but of course we can't be 100% sure unfortunately.

Thanks, I didn't have a multimeter on me at the time but I can now see that the battery does have a small charge, which leads me to believe that this thing is toast.
I have a shiny new Smart-UPS X 2200 on the way for replacement, yay - new toys!
