3000RM3U not powering on

I have a DL3000RM3U with serial number XS0228007608. This unit would not power on at all. It was in storage for a number of years and looks like it had not bee used. I got another set of batteries, but they're also weak. I understnd the older models would not power up without good DC voltage. I came across this thread but have questions I hope someone can answer.

http://forums.apc.com/spaces/5/smart-ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/4334/smartups-3000-repairable...

How much voltage do i need to feed the capacitors? 48 volts? What is the best way to feed them? This unit has 2 sets of batteries with separate connectors. Does each set of battery provide 24 or 48 volts at the connector? Correct me if i'm wrong. The way the batteries are connected to the wiring harness looks like it's 24 volts. I do have a wall wart that puts out 48 volts DC, but if each set of batteries is 24 volts, i can't feed it directly to the connector. I also have new RM3000XLs, but they only use one set of batteries and is probably 48 volts.

I also have an RM1500 that uses a single 24 volt batteriy. if the DL3000RM3U does indeed require 24 volts at each connector, i can make some cable to connect this one batter to both connectors to get some juice in the capacitors. Is there any harm in this?

When the UPS is charging the batteries, how much amperage is pumped into the batteries? Is feeding it 2 amps from a car battery charger too much?

I want to know if the unit itself is good before I request a new set of batteries from management. Thanks in advance.

from an APC perspective, I will answer as many questions as I can

1.) This UPS is designed with a charger of 196 watts.

2.) This UPS runs on a 48vDC system. Float charge of the batteries is 55.vDC

3.) This UPS uses four 12V, 7AH batteries, wired in series to achieve 48vDC.

hope this helps. the rest i cant really comment on since i am not sure and we cant really recommend opening the UPS etc but maybe someone else can chime in..

Hello I picKed a winna,

I just purchased a used SU3000RMNET model, and it does not turn on at all. (I checked my 120V outlet, turned on main switch in the back of the unit, push the "on" button in front).

I checked the battery and it read ~ 10V.

My question is - does the UPS model require a working (24V) battery installed before it can be turned on ?
