ION 7550 - change the unit of energy delivered value

Hi Everyone,

For ION7550, the default unit of energy delivered value is kWh, so it can not display the energy delivered value greater than 999 999 999 kWh (or 9 digits).

Attached file below is a real case of this issue, the actual value is 12 407 889,75 kWh, but the value displaying on ION7550 only 2 407 889,75 kWh.
1930

Can we change the unit of Energy Delivered value (displaying on the screen ION 7550) from kWh to MWh?

Thanks for your advice.

Regards,

Hi Khanh,

I've attached a document that has the step by step instructions on how to do the changes you want using ION Setup.

There are a lot of steps but once you have done it once it should not take a lot of time.

Let me know if this works for you or if you have any questions.

Jim

I believe if your CT size is high enough, it will automatically do this. I don't know what the exact numbers are, but it will change from kW to MW and current from A to kA

There are a number of ways to do this, all involve ION programming.

Probably the simplest example would be to link the output of the kWh del integrator module into an new arithmetic module.  Divide the input by 1000 and label the result output register MWh del.   Link the MWh del  to the correct input of the "energy" screen.  For consistency I would do the same for kVArh del and kVAh del.

Hi James,

Current setting on the meter: CT = 10.000 / 1A, PT = 20.000 / 110V

I checked with TSC L2, they just confirmed that the ION 7550 does not has automaticcaly scale function for energy value, we have to do ION programming to convert from kWh to MWh.

Thanks.

Hi Jim Bradley,

Did you test the ION programming for such requests? can you share me how to do as detail as possible?

Thanks,

Hi Khanh,

Are you familiar with ION Modules and frameworks etc ? Do you have any experience with the Designer program of PME?  Or do you have any experience with ION Setup?  I can provide a either a design file for Designer and instructions for Designer or instructions for how to do this with ION Setup.

Since ION programming is for functional configuration testing of small changes is up to the Application Engineer and generally is not done by a formal test department.

The best analogy I have is :

Meter Real Time OS  = PC BIOS

Meter Firmware = Windows  Note that the default frameworks are fully and formally tested.

Meter ION programming = Application like Excel.

Hi Jim,

Yes, we're familiar with ION Setup & some experience with Designer program of PME.

If you have a real Designer program or ION setup for this case then please share with us, to help us not to waste time to study again.

the following task of conversion of energy values to mega is being considered by a lot of customers. however as per the attached document, the conversion is all fine. however if the customer requires rollover count as well.this will not suit the purpose, as the energy value is in kilo , and as soon as it reaches the maximum value, the value will rollover back to zero. what is the solution in this scenario??

Hi,

The solution is similar but things are done in a different order.  First link the real time power value, kW tot into a new arithmetic module.  Note that the there are 2 registers called kW tot, one from the Power Meter Module and one from an Arithmetic Module labeled "Scaling". To do the calculation the same as the default use the register from the Scaling Arithmetic module.  In the new Arithmetic module divide kW tot by 1000 and label the output register MW tot.  Create a new integrator module and link MW tot to the "Integrand" input of the Integrator module.  The other inputs , enable and reset, should be linked to same outputs as all the default Integrator Modules for consistency but this is not needed for the new Integrator Module to work.  Next set the new Integrator  Module setup register "RollValue" to the desired rollover point (in MHhr). Finally label the output register appropriately, e.g. MWhr del, and link it as required to display modules, data recorders etc.
