Remote Connect Unable to Open Program Files

When opening a PRJ file I am met with a prompt informing the file has been migrated from an earlier version of Remote Connect. It has blurred the Open Editor button and not allowed me to see the logic.

Is there a way to view files made on older versions in a newer version of RemoteConnect? If not, where can I find older versions of RemoteConnect for download.

This can be a big issue, and shows why it's important to archive all your projects before upgrading RemoteConnect. The installer does caution users to do this. However, we're past that point now. There are two possible ways to move forward:

1) If you know the version of RemoteConnect the project was created with, you could:

  • Install that version into a VM or on a machine that doesn't have the newer RemoteConnect on it.
(Our Global Tech Support team should be able to provide a link to the older version)
  • Open the application. On the SCADAPack x70 Logic page, press the "Update & Build Logic" button.
  • Click the little down-arrow beside the Save icon and select Export Project. This creates an *.RCZ file.
  • Transfer the RCZ file to the computer running the latest version of RemoteConnect.
  • With RC closed, double-click the new *.RCZ file. This opens RC and the project.
  • Build then save the project in the new version.
  • To avoid future issues, do an Export to create an RCZ file to be ready for future versions of RC.

2) Alternately, this method does not require installing the older version:

  • Open the project in the newer version of RemoteConnect. Do not try to open Logic Editor or do a Build.
  • In the "My Network" view, right-click on SCADAPack x70 Controller Settings -DeviceDTM
  • Select Additional Functions, then Export to Excel File. (Exports the configuration)
  • Create a NEW default SCADAPack project with the desired RTU type.
  • From the same Additional Functions sub-menu, do an Import from Excel File of the file just created.
  • Open the sub-menu again, select Import Logic Project, and select the original *.STA file
  • On the SCADAPack x70 Logic page, click Update & Build Logic.
  • To avoid future issues, do an Export to create an RCZ file to be ready for future versions of RC.
