[Imported] SMS channel and TCP/IP type connection

This is a re-posting from the obsoleted (October 2018) "Schneider Electric Telemetry & SCADA" forum.

_______

**_YVSemyonov:
Hello!
Due to the complex redundant servers (Hot-Standby Pair architecture on the VMWARE vSphere) we need to review redirection SMS.
Earlier, we used an ordinary GSM modem (via COM). In the configuration SMS channel Connection Type = ‘Serial'.
You use the device with Connection Type = ‘TCP\\IP'? As I understand it is similar to GSM gateway. Give an example please.
An idea to use for these purposes neogate tg
[http://www.tongdai.com.vn/downloads/dl/file/id/277/api_k_t_n_i_l_p_trinh_g_i_va_nh_n_sms.pdf](http:/... "http://www.tongdai.com.vn/downloads/dl/file/id/277/api_k_t_n_i_l_p_trinh_g_i_va_nh_n_sms.pdf")
Do you think this will work?
PS: The support answered:
1) via Serial - to - Ethernet converter (for example Moxa N Port)
2) via software solutions with additional computer (for example [http://www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html](http://www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html "http://www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html"))_**

Kirill:
I will share my full response to you here on the forum if you do not mind.

This is a bit different approach, ClearSCADA pager driver uses purely AT commands to operate attached GSM modem. Most obvious connection is Serial, but serial modem can be connected via the Serial - to - Ethernet converter.
In that case TCP/IP has to be selected and configured.

NeoGate device has an API, which can be used together with ClearSCADA in many ways:

- command line (create SYSTEM COMMAND alarm redirection ACTION that will run external batch file and parse the phone and text as an arguments. Batch file will contain the required steps to establish connection to the NeoGate and arguments for the SMS). I reckon, this is the most easiest and relatively fast to develop way.

- ClearSCADA .NET API with combination of system command. .NET API can be used to retrieve the text and message from the ClearSCADA

- Driver Development Kit (this is the most complex solution)

Hardware Serial Device Servers: Moxa N Port, Korenix, allow to have a serial modem connected via ethernet.

Software Serial Device Servers:

Kirill, many thanks!
Now we stopped on a combination of NPort5110 and Maestro 100 GSM/GPRS (We use it before). What do you think about it?
With NeoGate device there is still the same problem with the incoming SMS (commands)?_**

______________

bevanweiss:
We've got quite a few Maestro M100 units in use for SMS Paging.
Also with Moxa NPort Terminal Servers. Haven't had any real issues with them.

I think the standard power supplies they come with aren't the greatest, and believe there have been a few issues with these, but the modems themselves seem pretty robust.

It sounds like the NeoGate wouldn't have the same level of monitoring as the inbuilt ClearSCADA SMS paging system (where the Channel is monitored and alarmed if the modem doesn't reply to the periodic AT commands, and the sending of the SMS is also checked by the modems response)
