I am Controls System Tehnician and a lot of times i hear guys mention backfeed when we are troubleshooting. Is electrical backfeed another way of saying “a short” in the circuit?

You'll have to be more specific (e.g., are we talking LV or MV network, overhead lines or underground cables, etc. ?). Typically, backfeed current happens when you have a short upstream your location and stored energy or ENR production (PV, etc.) downstream.
