Because of slightly similar reasons this original post mentions I also use a lots of sections in project browser on large projects to create a nicely structured program. The problem I see with the current project browser is that it does not promotes the use of lots of sections and POUs 😞
It to gets hard to navigate through it because it lacks a proper search function. There is this right click "go to" option but you can only search matching the exact phrase form left to right, for example if section is called 452_RRPU_001 where in my case 452 is a PLC "object number" which has several purposes in the code, for example execution order. But this is not the object identification property I use in daily work, it is the "RRPU" name for example. So when I want to find one of my RRPUs I can't use the "go to" because then I would have to know the PLC object number first. And it does not hide non matching sections so if there are more then one matching but at different locations you have to continue typing until you match the next one for it to jump there and be shown. I would rather have a search field where you can type *RRPU and all sections matching this is shown, others should disappear in list to be able to quickly chose the one I'm interested in which may be for example 631_RRPU_002. The list should show these two then if there are only two matches for *RRPU or *RRPU*. This improved search could also move out of the go to dialog and be in the gray empty space on the project browser top like this:
And you can just hit enter several times to jump to next match if the one you are looking for is not directly visible in the list...
Today I find my sections through searching for (for example) *RRPU* in the variable list, right click on a variable I can guess may belong in the section/object I'm looking for and do another search on that and select a (hopefully) found occurrence in the section I'm looking for. A slightly awkward way to navigate around in my long list of sections 😞
