What Belden wire# do I use for extending HDPM6000 series CT wires and on 8000series CT wires?

Hi @Meterman

Depending on the types (form factors) of LVCT CTs(with low voltage output) used in the HDPM6000, the wire sizes vary as mentioned in the table below from the HDPM6000 Series Current Transducer Installation Manual:

Mehran_Mehrnia_0-1736871369437.png

Some of CTs are sold with leads up to 40 or 60 feet, but we have not specified a maximum extended length for the HDPM CT reference, nor have we conducted research on this topic.

In some applications, extending the CAT6 cable up to 30 m (98 ft) in length between the HDPM6000 head unit's bus and the first branch module like retrofit module to be close to the field, could be a good solution rather than extending the LVCTs' leads, which may affect the accuracy and pick up noise.

For METSECT80XXX series(current transformers with current output), as mentioned in installation sheet, the recommended conductor is 20 AWG:

However, since extending the cable adds resistance (burden) to the current circuit for CTs with current output, this FAQ explains how to determine the wire size when the lead is extended.

Best Regards,

-Mehran
