Survey on changing Meter Telnet and FTP communications to SSH / SFTP
We are investigating SSH and SFTP support as secure communication alternatives on the PM8000 and ION7400 series power meters. We're trying to get a better understanding of how you and your customers use these features.
A few questions we'd like your help with:
We assume FTP is used mostly to download COMTRADE files, but what software typically does this? (Is it scripted using the built-in windows FTP command for example?)
Are there any other FTP workflows?
What about Telnet?
Can these workflows, software packages, or software utilities be adapted to use SSH or SFTP instead, or would deprecating the unsecure version cause challenges.
Is SFTP (FTP over SSH) sufficient or is FTPS (FTP over SSL) required for your application / workflow?
