Survey on changing Meter Telnet and FTP communications to SSH / SFTP
We are investigating SSH and SFTP support as secure communication alternatives on the PM8000 and ION7400 series power meters. We're trying to get a better understanding of how you and your customers use these features.
A few questions we'd like your help with:
- We assume FTP is used mostly to download COMTRADE files, but what software typically does this? (Is it scripted using the built-in windows FTP command for example?)
- Are there any other FTP workflows?
- What about Telnet?
- Can these workflows, software packages, or software utilities be adapted to use SSH or SFTP instead, or would deprecating the unsecure version cause challenges.
- Is SFTP (FTP over SSH) sufficient or is FTPS (FTP over SSL) required for your application / workflow?
