Hello,
I received following inquiry from a customer, but I don't have old PQM so I would like some advice.
As a general rule, I understand that older PQMs will need to have their firmware updated in stages.
ex, ION9000:v2.0.0 ⇒ v2.1.0 ⇒ v2.2.1 ⇒ V4.6.0
However, what happens if you accidentally upgrade the firmware from V2.0.0 to V4.6.0?
Will an error occur during the update and all operations will be canceled?
Or will the update go through to completion and the measurements become abnormal?
Best regards,
Miyai

Hi @Miyai
Firmware version V2.1.0 acts as an upgrade agent, as it is the minimum required version to proceed with an upgrade to the lates ones. Once the meter is updated to V2.1.0, it can be directly upgraded to the latest version (V4.6.0) without needing to go through V2.2.1.
The upgrade path is: V1.4.3 -> V2.1 -> V3.1 or V4.0.0 or V4.5.0 or V4.6.0(which is the latest) as long as firmware version 2.1.0 have been previously installed and ensure using the latest version of Install ION Setup when upgrading to V4.6 (v3.2.25037.01 or higher). The current version is v3.2.251185.01 .
The upgrade process will fail during validation, and the meter will reject the firmware file because existing firmware versions earlier than V2.1.0 do not support upgrades to later versions.
No changes will be made to the meter, and it will remain on its current firmware version. Since the firmware is not applied, no abnormal measurements or data corruption should occur.

Hello Mehran,
Note that ION9000 meters did not have a V1.4.3, the ION9000 meters started with V2.0.0. You are correct that V2.1.0 is a requirement before upgrading to any later versions of firmware.
@Miyai if you try to upgrade a meter with V2.0.0 firmware, the meter will reject the latest firmware file as the meter does not understand the file format.

Charles
