QR Code Reader / Scanner

I am having problems scanning the QR Code in the PM5560.

I am running: Android V5.1

Phone:  Nexus 5.

I have tried a few different QR Reader apps with no success.  Does anyone have suggestions on a QR Code Reader they have successfully used?

Thanks.

Hi Eric,

Can you clarify what problem you're having.  Are you getting errors?  Are you not able to scan any of the screens at all?  Note that the Alarm and Log QR screens are tougher to scan on older or smaller devices; scanning those screens with a newer tablet is recommended.  For now, please be sure to review the scanning tips on Step 2 of the Quick-Start Guide and see our suggested Apps below.  Let me know how you make out

Thanks

sam

Eric confirmed that the issue appears on an actual meter display only, so my replay is not solving the problem.

Sam,

The problem I have is the QR Reader does nothing...doesn't recognize the meter display as a QR Code. So it sits there re-focusing and scanning looking for a QR code.     I have tried the Android Apps you mention above as well as a few others.  Since the Nexus 5 has a 8Megapixel camera I assumed it would work.  Maybe the scanner app?   Note we also have a Blackberry Z10 in the office and it works very well.  Haven't tried with Apple.  By the way; the Nexus phone has no problem with the SPRIG demo Bojan refers to above; but doesn't work on the actual meter.

Hi Eric,

Have you tried to set a higher contrast, as a rule of thumb is that it should be at least 55% contrast difference between the squares and the background?

I have an S4 and use QR droid.  Sometimes the focus and recognition is a bit flakey, so I take a photo using the camera app (ensuring the QR code fills most of the screen), and then use the QRdroid app to "Decode Image" from the "more" menu.  Focussing is sometimes tough with screens that have bezels, light reflections, etc. but the work around has always done the job for me.

Hi Eric,

Contrast setting and lighting (contributing to glare on the meter's screen) will both greatly impact your ability to scan.  Bojan and Art both provided helpful answers; in addition, I found the following App to be much more successful scanning in poor condition as it operates in 2 steps; it first takes a photo as soon as it detects a stable QR in focus; it then interprets the photo of that QR

QR BARCODE SCANNER Code Reader - Android Apps on Google Play

Let me know if you have better success with all this additional advice

Thanks

sam

I don't have a Nexus so cannot comment directly on that phone. However, I did have problems with a couple of apps (not just for the meter QR codes but others out there in the world) until I switched to QR Droid. So far, that's been working for me.

I have a Nexus 5 and I use QR Droid. It works pretty much every time,  no need to change contrast or anything.
