Powertag Rope Noise issues

Can anyone advise if the Rope type CT of Powertag is immuned from electrical noise?

We are installing the CT inside an electrical trunking where a lot of electrical cables will be around.

Hello @RWG924,

The term electrical noise can be difficult to translate into something factual. The PowerTag Rope complies with the requirements defined in IEC 61557-12. However, the question specifically concerns crosstalk, which is not clearly defined in current standards.

The PowerTag Rope current sensor is specified to tolerate no more than a 0.4% deviation in its measurement due to interference from a neighboring wire. To minimize external influences, we recommend avoiding the placement of external wires near the closing block, as illustrated in the instruction sheet and as @Mehran_Mehrnia has already mentioned.

Best Regards,

JD

Hi @RWG924

PowerTag Rope is a Rogowski solution, which relies on measuring the rate of change of current (di/dt) which is different from conventional CTs that use magnetic cores. This makes them sensitive to external magnetic fields, however there are some Installation Best Practices:

  • Center the conductor within the loop as much as possible to improve accuracy and reduce noise pickup.
  • Avoid placing the CT loop too close to adjacent phase conductors, especially in tight trunking. The influence of nearby phases can distort the measurement.
  • Fix the CT loop securely around the conductor if possible. If not, ensure it is stable and not in contact with other conductors.
  • Route the CT leads away from high-voltage cables and avoid parallel runs with power lines to minimize induced noise

Thx JD. Do we have any documentation quoting the 0.4% deviation max limit due to cross talk even it is installed in a highly conductive influence trunking?

Many thx

Hello,

That is our internal specification for the current sensor on the rope. We can prepare a declaration that can be shared with you. However, we need to clarify which parameter is of interest to you (e.g., current, power, etc.).

Best regards,
JD

Many thanks. We need this document for a transportation customer. They concern with the Current and Power accuarcy.  So for the Power accuracy , it is still limited at 0.4%; the same as current?

@Jesus_Diaz   Please let me know the duration to get this 0.4% certificates for Power and Current.

Many thanks
