PM8000 Ethernet daisy chain

Hello,

Does anyone know how many PM8000 meters can connect by Ethernet daisy chain?

PME server - <Ethernet switch> - PM8000(1) - PM8000(2) - PM8000(3) - +++ - PM8000(?)

Is there any limitation about this?

We and our customers understand that the network will shut out when the PM8000 on the way goes down.

I hope hearing from someone soon.

kind regards,

Hideki Kougo

Note that it is 100m between *switches* (or in this case devices).  Unlike a repeater a switch handles each cable independently for collisions, etc since a switch is a store & forward mechanism for each physical layer frame from each input.

Still a really good idea to limit the amount of chaining to a smallish number because if *any* device in the chain loses power then all the downstream devices will no longer be connected to the network since the "switch" has been powered off. 🙂

You may find this article helpful. Basically states that since each meter has a unique IP and acts as a 2 port switch you can add as many meters as your network will allow. At some point it will no longer be practical to use a single connection for so many devices but that happens at a large number. Also keep in mind that you can only have a 100 meter cable run before you need a repeater or other network device.
