ION9000 Logging capabilities

Hello,

We are looking to use ION9000 to do the following while performing a series of tests that includes voltage dips and changes in frequency:

  • Log high speed measurements (HS V rms, HS Irms, HS kW total, HS kVar total and HS frequency) at 2kHz (or 0.5 ms) intervals.
  • Pre-event logging (at least 10 sec), post-event logging (at least 60 sec)

My question are :

1) Is if its possible to perform these tests considering the pre and post event times and

2) Would it be possible to record waveform data for the same period of time available in comtrade?

Thanks in advance,

Antonio

Hello @totocian91 ,

The ION9000 can log "burst data at 1/2 cycle rates, this would be 8.33 ms for 60Hz system or 10 ms for 50Hz systems. The meter cannot log any faster than this. As for how long you can log, this depends on the number of measurements logged and other settings in other places inside the meter.

As for waveforms, this in part depends on the samples/per cycle setting, COMTRade has a limit of 75 records, If you set the formate to 32x54, you would need 12 pre-event records and 67 post-event records, this would be more than the 75 limit in the COMTRADE module. If the format was 16x96, the pre-event would be 7, post event would be 38 for a total of 46 waveforms for 1 event, this would be within the COMTRADE module's limit.

A configuration like this would consume most of the meter's internal Buffer memory, this is a special type of memory that is shared by all the data recorder, waveform recorder, eventlog and other modules inside the meter.

Regards,

Charles

Hello @Charles_Murison ,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I believe I expressed incorrectly my query confusing sampling rate with logging speed.

What I am looking for is to log the behaviour of a power system for at least 10 secs prior and 60 secs post a triggered test (eg. voltage step, frequency step) at a minimum 2kHz sampling rate in 50Hz system.

As I understand, if I set the format to 32x54 I would need 10 pre-event records and 56 post-event records to capture the time window requested. However my sampling rate with this configuration would be 1.6kHz.

Please correct me if I'm wrong and I would like to know if its possible to set the the meter to reach the 2kHz for that time frame.

Thanks again

Hello @totocian91,

A bit of information to unpack here. The ION900 meter will sample inputs at 1024 samples per cycle. What I think you are asking about is storing information gathered by the meter. As you say, 32 samples per cycle is 1600 samples per second. The next highest recording format for waveform recording is 64x28, At this setting you would need 18 waveforms pre trigger, 108 waveforms post trigger.

ION9000 cannot support this configuration.

Regards,

Charles
