ION8650 High Speed Data Recording

I have an application where we need to record Freq. and kW at 32 samples per second (not cycles).

A Setpoint module will trigger the recording if the Frequency goes out of bounds. However, I cannot figure out if we can have a Data Recorder module log that fast. In the manual I see "HIGH SPEED CONTINUOUS" but I have not been able to figure out what that means.

1) Is it possible to record values at 32 samples per second.

2) The next part of the requirement is to also record an analog signal at the same rate (32 samples per second). Is the Analog Input module a high-speed module?

Thank you!

Hello Sepehr,

1) Yes the meter is able to record values at a rate of 32 per second (period of 0.03125 seconds). I did test this on a meter with periodic timer of 0.031. The meter is able to record this fast. Note that this was also setup with the enable being controlled as to not have meter need to worry about wearing out the lash memory.

Second part is to log the freq and kW, the default module for this is the power meter module, however this is updated only once a second. The high speed module does update at high speed. There is a catch however when using this module for frequency. The frequency measurement at this rate is susceptible to hysteresis and you may see a jump/dip in the value. The 1 second update is great without any issue and meets all standards we say the meter meets. However the HS power meter module has no standards for 1/2 cycle updates.

Second question: "record an analog signal at the same rate " I am afraid I do not have a meter with the IO module that I can test the update rate with.

Regards,

Charles

Small correction, I was looking at wrong document, I do not see analog inputs for the ION8650. I do see digital but that is not what I believe you are looking for.

Thank you @Charles_Murison.

I also found this bit of information about high-speed logging as it pertains to the LogMode register of the Data Recorder module:

"For typical logging use, this register does not need to be modified. For continuous high-speed logging (> 1 record per 60 seconds), this register should be set to High Speed Continuous."
