ION7600/7500 "Batery Low" event

Hi Everyone,

Recently I saw in event log of ION7500 and ION7600 meters the "Batery Low" Value:

CauseValueEffectValue
External7500 IONBattery Low

What does it mean? event log don't show the cause of the event. It something related to processing rate of those ION 7600/7500?

Best Regards

Farid Yauri

It has been a long time since I worked on those meters.  I would advise you to contact Technical Support to get official answers.

- While the meter is powered up the battery is not used but it still degrades over time and thus needs to be periodically replaced.

- I am not sure of the exact time expectancy but I think it is on the order of ten years or so.

- The warning will appear after a set number of years.  There may be other criteria that will change this period but this is something you need to confirm.

- The batteries will be available from =S= if the meter is still being supported.

There is a battery inside the meter that provides power to the real time clock when the meter is powered off.  It has a limited life time and needs to be replaced periodically.  I believe it alerts at ~90% of the expected lifetime of the battery so it does not need to be immediately replaced.

Hi Hal,

Thank you for your reply.

About your answer, the battery only works when meter is power off or the meter is working on internal clock mode too, is that correct? What happen if the meter is working with NTP  protocol (in my case) or any mode external sync, battery still working in background? What is life time for those batteries?

I didn't see that event for recent meter models like ION7650 and 7550, or after some years this event will appear?

Also, could you tell me if the battery for those models (7500/7600), are still on sale from SCHE?

Best regards

Farid Yauri
