Hello everybody,
It's a simple question, can you tell me how many MB are available for ION7400 and PM8240 meters to store data? I remember these devices had only 10 MB available for framework but I realize with new firmwares version (1.4.3) increased the capacity of logging onboard.
I read the "What’s new in the... firmware version 1.4.3" document for meters and this only said: "This firmware release introduces changes to the meter’s logging architecture to allow for the use of more onboard memory for logging". I don't have any meter phisically with me, but checking offline ION7400 and PM8240 meters these devices have 473 MB available for logging data.
Can you confirm this onboard log storage capacity for ION 7400 and PM8240 meters?
Best Regards
Farid Yauri

Currently still limited to 10 MB, under investigation.

Latest available firmware has increased available logging to approx 334 Mb *but* individual logs are still restricted to the 10 Mb limitation presently. We are investigating possible ways to raise the logging limit but this impacts device response times when searching large logs for specific records to the point software timeouts are occuring.

Does ION 9000 have the same limit?

Hi @Robert_Lee
Could you tell me if you already have a solution with a new firmware version to access more memory?
Thanks for your kind attention.
regards
Miguel

Engineering is still looking into ways to allow timely access to large data files within an acceptable time so presently firmware is still restricted to 10 MB per individual recorders.
ION9000 allows over 1.6 Gb of log storage while ION7400 and PM8000 models still allow 340+ Mb of total logging memory.
Allowing storage of vasts amount of data in the device does NOT allow the transfer of the data in a timely manner to a PC so having on board device storage that permits large data capture without sufficient means to extract the data to PME will result in data loss anyway (i.e. capturing 100 Mb of data every few seconds but only able to transfer a few MB in that time).

Hi Miguel - we are interested in the specific application you are trying to accomplish? Or specific requirements?
Thanks !

Hi Tom,
The query went by the following: In several projects the ION7400 meters have been supplied and the final client has not consulted the reason that if in the technical manual or brochure indicates a memory capacity of 512MB only 10MB of its memory can be accessed is more with the latest firmware version is observed that you have access as a display by ION Setup to about 345MB but in realization has the limitation of 10MB even.
Is this already a resuleto to access the 345MB or 512MB of memory in the meter?

Hi Miguel - there is 345 MB available on a given device for logging. The restriction of 10MB is now just per data recorder, but you can have multiple data recorders on a meter. The difference between 345 and 512 is to reserve space for other uses such as FTP space etc. Does this clarify the question?
Thanks
Tom

Hi @Tom_Stevenson,
The case is as follows by a regulation in Peru is required the registration of power and frequency every 1 second, this implies a record of about or more than 5 million data in a single datarecord; that is why the query I understand by your answer that if we add several datarecord's that we can create we would arrive at the use of those 345MB?
The same has been replicated in an ION8650A or B and there were no problems!
Thanks
Miguel

Hola Miguel,
You are correct, besides that if frequency is the main quantity you need to record, you can have a dedicated data recorder module only for that quantity, and it will have enough space for many records. You should also look into how long should the data be stored so you know exactly how many records you will need.
If you are having troubles to setup this meter configuration, reach out to the technical support team with a copy of the template you are working, and we will be able to help you.

Fabricio
