FTP transfer from ION9000 meter fails almost every time.

I have several meters at a site.  I have been trying to download the files using a SFTP software.  I have tried WINSCP and FileZilla and in both cases, I almost always get errors.

For the FileZilla; I get an Open Read failure and the transfer fails.

For the WIN SCP I get this error:

General failure (server should provide error description).
Error code: 4
Error message from server:

Common reasons for the Error code 4 are:
- Renaming a file to a name of already existing file.
- Creating a directory that already exists.
- Moving a remote file to a different filesystem (HDD).
- Uploading a file to a full filesystem (HDD).
- Exceeding a user disk quota.

This makes using the FTP transfer mostly useless.

Hi @Paul_Crouch

Please note that, in ION9000, as of firmware V2.2.1, meter only supports secure file transfer protocol (SFTP). FTP and Telnet protocols are no longer supported.

Ensure that the protocol and ports are enabled:

You could check for a direct connection if possible, especially if FTP (on meters with older firmware) or SFTP is being blocked by the network.

Best Regards,

-Mehran

Hello @Paul_Crouch ,

May need a bit for information about your system. What version of WinSCP do you have? What firmware version?

Some settings that may help.

Open Preferences in WinSCP

Under Transfer -> Background
Change the setting Maximum number of transfers at the same time to 1
Uncheck the box for Use multiple connections for single transfer

Under Transfer -> Endurance

Change the setting Enable transfer resume/transfer to temporary filename for to Disable

Regards,

Charles

Hi Charles,

The FW on the all the meters is 2.002, so it is out of date.  Thought I had updated, but had not yet.

I can download directly from the meter using ION setup.

I will update the FW on at least on of the meters to see if that helps in any matter.

I have changed the WINSCP settings as suggested and will see what happens.
