Hello everyone,
Have you had any chance to test the DLMS over Ethernet functionality in ION8650 / ION8800 or newer meters that support DLMS protocol?
Where you succesfull in establishing a connection from a client software to the meter? Can you share some details if so?
Our documentation is very vague on this subject and the meter User Guide / ION Reference and the DLMS/COSEM and ION technology seems not enough.
I ran into a client software (EZReader) - I think this is the only free tool available on www - so I gave it a try. Anyone using a different tool?
Unfortunately I can't connect to a ION8800 fw. 370s (I enabled DLMS Over TCP on port 4059 and configured some DLMS Log Export modules for test.) - the tool returns "No response", The settings I'm using for EZReader should work unless I'm missing something,
Your inputs / comments / suggestions are welcome.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Victor

Hi @VictorMarincus
The EZ reader tool does not do the HDLC over Ethernet (i.e. Serial protocol over ethernet). I would suggest using Gurux: https://www.gurux.fi/
Once downloaded and running, To add a device, click File -> Add Device
You will need the following settings:
The settings are in Hex for Physical and Client Address (Physical should be 100, and Client 16). Once added, Right click on the device and hit connect. Everything should work fine.

Sanjeet

Thank you Sanjeet,
That is really helpful. I confirm I was able to do the test using GXDLMSDirector.
But then ... ... where is the Phisical Address comming from?
I propose to change the existing documentation because there's nothing about this mentioned:
https://www.schneider-electric.com/en/download/document/7EN22-0123/
Is the 100h address hardcoded for DLMS over TCP?

HEllo @Sanjeet_Sahota , @VictorMarincus ,
Are you connected directly to the ethernet port of the ION meter or via an Ethernet Gateway to reach the serial port.
if it's through the ethernet port of the meter how can you configure the DLMS protocol over ehternet in the ION Setup ?
Thanks a lot for your help.
regards.
Daniel

Hello @Danisamgibs,
"Are you connected directly to the ethernet port of the ION meter or via an Ethernet Gateway to reach the serial port." The meter can support DLMS on the serial port or the Ethernet port. When using the Ethernet port, you need to have DLMS packet encapsulated in TCP/IP Ethernet. This is why you need "Use serial Port through Ethernet" with Gurux. You can thing of this like the difference between modbus RTU over TCP verses modbus TCP, very different packet structure and contents but both considered modbus.
"how can you configure the DLMS protocol over Ethernet in the ION Setup ?" First step is make sure DLMS Ethernet is enabled and confirm the port number. Communications -> Advanced Ethernet -> Protocols
Then you will need to use advanced setup in ION Setup -> DLMS Log Export Modules
From here you can either edit existing modules or create new modules.

Hello @Danisamgibs ,
What is the device type you are using? If PM8000, the meter does not support DLMS. If ION Meter, what firmware version?

Charles

Hello @Danisamgibs ,
Are you able to upgrade meter to V4.40.1 firmware? If you are able to do so, you will see option to enable/disable DLMS and what port the meter will use.

Charles

Hello @Charles_Murison ,
We are working with the Mexican Utility CFE and they only has aprooved and homologate the firmware 004.021.000 by now.
I understand that my only option with this software is to use the RS485 port to use DLMS. Am i right ?
Thanks for your help @Charles_Murison .
My last question is to know if Gurux libraries are the better way to go to develop an own software to interface with DLMS to gather the meter infomration ?
Kind regards
Daniel
