TM172 to TM171 Optimized migration

I am trying to move a project created for a TM172 with display to a TM171 optimized (also with display). Besides the caveat of not being able to use any of the HMI goodies, it would be nice if I could share a single program for both setups.

If I select Project/Select target I get this selection Menu:

select.jpg

So I select the only logical choice. In my case I am trying to use a TM171OF22R.

Next I am warned to save the project and, after I do it, this message appears:

warning.jpg

So I click on Yes and theoretically this should convert the program to a TM171, delete (I guess) all the Display (HMI) interfase and let me define the menus for the TM171.  This does not happen.

If I choose the TM171P Display 423.28 it does work. But afterwards if I try to connect to the real PLC, I am told that they do not belong to the same platform and does not let me communicate with the PLC.

Trying to migrate from TM171P to TM171O gives the same result as in the first case.

So my questions are, if anyone can advise:

1) Is there anyworkaround for this ?

2) Should this not be possible, what would you recommend ? Importing programs and function blocks from the original project to a newly created project for the TM171 optimized is prettyr straightforward, but there are plenty of Status variables and Eeprom variables that need to be created for the new project.

Hi,

I confirm there is a bug which does not allow a change of target from M172 to M171O.

About the copy and paste of EEprom and Status Variables from M172 to M171O, you can try this workaround:

- copy EEprom or Status Vars of M172 project to an Excel sheet

- move column D,E to E,F

- copy from Excel file to M171O EEprom or Status Vars

Hi,

You are right it seems not to possible to downgrade the Target from TM172 to TM171O.

Till yet I never had this case and so the issue is new for me.

It seems that ESME HVAC 1.5 will get an import function for status and EEPROM values.

Meanwhile you could copy and paste the status and the EEPROM values between to open projects.

But you must consider that the address range of TM171O is smaller then the size of TM172.

And you must proof if every of your FB/FC/PRG still work. TM172 offers much more functions and target vars.

Thanks for your feedback. We have a stock left for this model and we intend to use them, that´s the reason why I am migrating. But also, for some applications the panel surface mount is an advantage, and not all the bells and whistles of the HMI are needed, so that is yet another important reason.

Copy and paste works but with some caveats. I would say it is caused by the additional column used for the TM171O line of controllers. This means that both the installer type and IEC type column are not correctly read while pasting and manual work is needed.

Thanks for your post. Maybe with a different teacher I will finally learn this trick. I have not been able to reproduce the copy and paste from an excel sheet although I was told this should work before.

Copy and paste from different projects is quite straightforward. You simply select the different rows, right click, copy , go to the other project, select a row and paste there. It simply works.

If I use excel instead, it does not ! I can select and copy to an excel sheet, but copying and pasting from excel to the new project does not work. At least not the same way.

How do you do that ?

Try to copy from EEprom to excel.

When you copy back to another project you have to select the exact number of columns updated by the first copy (not the full row).

Maybe this is the reason you were not able to copy...

Thanks Ismet.

I have created a separate post to document the copy and paste which was not the original topic.
