Allow Alarm Severities to be set back to blank in ViewX

When using ViewX to configure an alarm severity on a point, once the alarm severity is set and the point is saved, it is no longer possible to set the severity back to the default state (a blank severity).

I'll illustrate with an example. Open ViewX and configure an analog input point. Choose an alarm and change the Severity Type from None to Event or Alarm, you are then able to change the Severity to Maintenance, Low, High or Critical. If you then save this configuration but later change your mind and set the Severity Type back to None, the Severity remains set albeit greyed out (ie: Maintenance, Low, High or Critical). The Severity in this case is irrelevant and it would be nice if it were set back to empty (Severity of 0).

I know I can use the scripting (an UPDATE statement for instance) or use the Bulk Edit Tool to set the severity back to zero but it should be possible to do this from ViewX. Are there any plans on changing ViewX to allow the severity to be reset to empty in future releases of GeoSCADA?

If the Severity Type is not valid (i.e. not Event / Alarm / Fleeting), then the Severity value has no meaning for this Severity Type setting, and hence retains it's current value (because there is no reason to change it).

I very much prefer the current behaviour.

It allows us to change between None / Event / Alarm / Fleeting without the actual Severity value becoming invalidated.

So it's possible to go from Alarm -> None.  And then at a later time from None -> Alarm and the alarm severity value is maintained through this.

Thanks for this reply.

I acknowledge that for your scenario (changing Alarm -> None and at a later time changing back from None to Alarm) would be useful as a way of temporarily disabling an alarm and enabling it again at a later stage without having to remember what the alarm severity was.  So, maybe the current behaviour for this scenario doesn’t need to change.

What DOES need to change is the ability to remove (or set back to default) a configuration that is no longer correct.  The current ViewX system allows you to configure an alarm type and severity and once saved, no longer allows you to change it back to a blank state.  Please understand that this behaviour is incredibly frustrating.  Once left in this state, an operator would see an alarm severity that is totally meaningless if the severity type is set to “None”.  I am working on a database at present where there are literally thousands of points that exhibit this behaviour.

Please consider changing the interface in ViewX so that once an alarm or event is configured, the severity type can later be reset back to default.  This could be done by adding an additional entry into the Severity drop-down box of “None”.
