📖HomeBack The ClearSCADA secure web server creates its own self-signed web certificate. However, when connecting to the server using https, the user will be presented with the following certificate error suggesting that the certificate is not from a trusted authority.
ClearSCADA 2007 R1 added support to allow a Certificate Signing Request to be generated. This can be used to purchase a certificate from companies like Verisign which will resolve the problem shown above (since Verisign is a trusted authority).
As an alternative to purchasing a web server certificate, you can install the certificate in the list of "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities". The procedure in IE7 is as follows:
Browse to the secure web server. IE7 will report "There is a problem with this website's security certificate.", with a further explanation "The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority."
Click on "Continue to this website (not recommended)", the ClearSCADA home page will now be displayed.
Click on the button marked "Certificate Error". A "Certificate Invalid" window will appear.
Click on "View Certificates". The "Certificate" dialog showing the server generated certficiate will appear.
Click on "Install Certificate...". The "Certificate Import Wizard" will appear.
Click "Next >".
Select the option "Place all certificates in the following store".
Click "Browse...". The "Select Certificate Store" dialog will appear.
Select "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" and click "OK".
Click "Next >" on the "CERTIFICATE Import Wizard".
Click "Finish" on the "CERTIFICATE Import Wizard". A "Security Warning" dialog will appear.
Click "Yes" on the "Security Warning" dialog. A "CERTIFICATE Import Wizard" will appear saying the import was successful.
Click "OK" to close the ""CERTIFICATE Import Wizard" dialog.
Click "OK" to close the "CERTIFICATE" dialog.
Close down IE.
After this procedure the user should not get any errors when browsing to the secure web server.
Future versions provide the capability to generate a Certificate Signing Request to allow a Verisign (or similar) web certificate to be created. This will resolve the limitations of the method described above.
