Unable to log in after initial setup

Data Center Expert Virtual Appliance (VM) 8.1.1 Trial

Vsphere 7.0.3.01900

I deployed the appliance from OVA and authenticated on the VM console using the default APC credentials, where I was prompted to change the passwords for apcsetup, apcinfo and apcreset, which I did. I also enabled the SSH server. I was then prompted to log into the web interface at the server's IP address, where I was met with a login prompt.

Entering the new credentials for any of these three users with the passwords I created simply results in the password prompt refreshing with blank fields. Attempts to connect to the SSH service result in immediate disconnects.

What am I doing wrong? How do I authenticate to SSH or the web UI if not with these three user accounts? I haven't been able to find any useful information on the web site.

Hello @dbwce,

Those three accounts do not allow you to log into the application, they are only used for console purposes.  When you went through the apcsetup wizard you may have been prompted to set up a user (unsure which version off hand added this) or the default values would be a username of apc and a password of apc to log into the web interface and desktop appliance.

As an FYI, if you are just deploying 8.1.1 and are not playing to do any sort of migration, I would recommend redeploying using the currently released 8.3 version: https://community.se.com/t5/DCE-downloads/DCE-VM-trial-version-download-links/ta-p/446780

Hm, I don't recall creating a password for the apc user and I'm not prompted to change it when I log into the console and re-run the modify routine.

In any case, I was not aware I was not given the latest release, so I'm going to try a fresh deployment of 8.3 and see where that gets me. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

To follow up, after re-deploying the VM and running the initial setup, I was indeed prompted to create a web user. Apparently I did this the first time around and forgot to record the information I entered, so my fault. I think it would be great if there was a way to recover this, or reset the web user from the console, so smooth brains like myself don't have to start back at the beginning.
