Is there a way to disable or remove the requirement for an e-mail address when creating a new account in DCO web access.? I haven't noticed this issue until I upgraded to v8.* and needed to create a new account. The server is on a closed network and will never be connected to any external sources. no e-mail verification.

Hi Thomas,
We can add users without email verification's, but we need to enter an email address anyway (it can be a virtual email address if you wish). As illustrated, I have created a user with virtual/not existing email address (in this example, the DCO server dose not have connection/configuration to any email server either):
Kind regards

Thanks for you response. I don't have the same options on the screen, how do you have the top choices between, "Operation" and "Auth server" ?? and if I add any e-mail address and make a password it fails to save (thread-job-id: null) if I let it generate a password, it alarms with unable to connect/send e-mail etc... check snmp settings.

Hi Thomas,
You are welcome - (choice/option with "Auth server" requires if already an authentication server is configured, otherwise we can only add local user), you might want to check/verify if your login has the admin rights (in particular the administration of user rights and authentication servers):
Furthermore, if you do not use an email service/server, then verify if the e-mail settings are cleared (via desk-top client, System Setup > E-mail Settings):
Assuming your DCO version is 8.1 (otherwise it is highly recommended to be upgraded).
Kind regards

I'll double check both when back to work, thank you. I wonder about the e-mail settings, I did a standalone install of 8.1, I had 7.5 so it wiped all server data for a clean install so I wouldn't expect the e-mail settings to be there. Unless the installer sets it that way.

Hi Thomas,
As far as I know, 8.1 installer will not make any default email setting(s). But if a backup file, that should contain e-mail settings configured, then restoring that backup file will restore the email settings as well. If the issue should be unresolved, would it be possible for you to take some screen captures (sort of illustrating the steps and displayed errors) so I can do a similar test locally (you are most welcome to mask any sensitive info), thanks.
Kind regards

Verified e-mail settings disabled. Verified admin account all permissions and equipment selected. There were no user groups, so I created an Administrator group, added the admin account and made sure all permissions remained correct. Still unable to create account without e-mail verification. I added a few pictures. Hope it helps. I still don't have the two options you display on account creation.

The only thing I see that is different on my accounts (have 3 admin) is my personal account had an e-mail address from the previous versions we have had since the beginning. Could this have triggered something in DCO, since it sees one account with an e-mail and would now require it?

One other thing noticed. Only the apc admin account has the permission for "planning IT change and work orders". The mtcg account is the one created during DCO 8.1 installation, although all admin accounts were from the restore.

Was able to edit current accounts to add an e-mail with no issues. The permission for "planning IT change and work orders" is not shown when you open the edit portion for permissions. Somehow it is on the account but cannot be chosen.

Hi Thomas,
Many thanks for your comments and shared images.
Having an email address in your user account will have no influence when you are adding a new user, but according to your screen capture it seems somehow you have an SMTP server configured in the setup:
Since it is unable to send an email to this new user (arrow 1), plus the fact that it should generate password (arrow 2) that should be emailed to new user.
You might want to re-try adding a new user, but this time without the "Generate password" option:
The two options in my previous capture (eg. adding either local user with Operation or remote user using an Auth. Server) is due to the fact that I had basically an authentication server configured in my test setup. Here is an illustration/capture without any authentication server and without SMTP server configured (in my setup):
Access to "Planning IT Change and Work Orders" requires Change license (additional module) installed, otherwise its features will not be enabled.
As mentioned, it seems somehow you have an SMTP server configured (perhaps not cleared/disabled), I can have a look at your setup (backup file) if it's okay with you? ( I will send you an invite to my =S= box, so the data safely can be share with me), thanks.
Kind regards

We do use SNMPv1 and SNMPv3 for the DCE network. NTP is disabled (webmin). DCO has the information for data/alarm collection. I'm not sure where DCO gets the snmpv3 password. We were never given that information from the initial install of our APC network (I've seen 3 different password so far). No settings have been changed other than software updates for DCE and DCO since 2010 and we never had this issue with needing an e-mail address, but this is the first time in years I've attempted to create a new account. As for the backup file, I would need authorization to send a copy, even if it would be allowed.

Picture 2 and 3 show the screens for generate password and a manually created one. Both fail.

Does the DCO even need the snmpv1 / v3 settings as long as it has the DCE connection for status updates.

Hi Thomas,
My apologies! Sorry for the confusion, it should have been SMTP sever (and not snmp, I have corrected my previous answer).
Based on the description, when creating a new user I would expect to see something like this for your setup:
Otherwise, I guess somehow you might have an E-mail Settings configured in the setup (and I'll gladly have a look if it is authorized to be shared with me), thanks.
Kind regards

Is there another way to check e-mail settings other than through "system setup / e-mail settings"
It shows blank and displays as disabled.
I double checked the DCE and no smtp settings there as well, I even cleared them just in case. To save the size of our back-up I was thinking about making a current save, then I could delete all global assets for another save file. Then restore from the first. This would give me a much smaller back up file that would probably be allowed to send to you. Will have to check with the management if it could be authorized.

Hi Thomas,
Via the user interface that seems to be the only place to check. If you are not using DCE as authentication server (in DCO), then DCE shouldn't be relevant here.
Your suggestion by sharing a "smaller" backup file (deleting all global assets) is a good idea, please let's try that, thanks.
Kind regards
