Hello any possibility to use DCE as a SNMP Gateway?
Customer wants to read all Sensor Data connected to DCE and store in their BMS System. They want to periodically read the data through SNMP, they dont want to receive a SNMP trap.
thank you

Hi Sven,
DCE does not output any SNMP data for the devices it monitors. The only SNMP data you can receive is the OS based data CentOS outputs. DCE can output modbus data for up to 247 devices worth of data using the AP95MODBUS license key. You can not add more licenses to increase that number.
DCE's devices can be monitored using the web API. This HTTP protocol data can be found here:
StruxureWare Data Center Expert Web Service API
Thanks,
Steve

Hello Steven and thank you,
What about the Netbotz device? Does the Netbotz support these functionality?
e.g. by downloading the MIB file and implementing in the BMS system?

thank you

Hi Sven,
You can monitor a NetBotz device and it's sensors using SNMP. This includes any SNMP device it may be monitoring using the 5 node device monitoring pack NBWN0006.

Hello Steven,
just to clarify:
I have a Netbotz 450 connected with 2x Bot150
12x dry contacts an 6x apc sensors.
These need to be available through snmp in the BMS System.
By using the 5 node device monitoring license, only 5 from these 18 would be available in the BMS System?
Do I need to implement 4x NBWN0006 to have all the sensors available?
thx

Hi Sven,
Sorry for any confusion. No, all sensors that NetBotz are currently monitoring are available to be monitored via SNMP. This includes all sensors connected to the 150 pods. No license is required to use any system to monitor the NetBotz via SNMP.
The NBWN0006 is used if you are looking to monitor other devices via SNMP from the NetBotz appliance. For instance if you were monitoring an APC PDU using SNMP with the NetBotz device, you would need the NBWN0006. Here you can see I'm monitoring a PDU with the NetBotz 570 I have:
You could then see it's values via SNMP when monitoring the NetBotz appliance:
The NetBotz can monitor up to 5 SNMP devices total and can only have one license of this type installed per unit. Again, this is NOT necessary if you are monitoring the appliance, only if the appliance is monitoring another device. Additionally, I do not believe new DDFs are being made for this feature.

Hello Steve and thank you for detailed explanation.
One more question. I am using 2 Netbotz 450
on the first a usb gsm modem is connected. I also want to implement the devices connected to the 2nd Netbotz 450 to send and receive alarm sms.
Is this possible by using the NBWN0006 because Pod sharing is not possible at Netbotz 450 ?

Hi Sven,
That license key is for a NetBotz to monitor an SNMP device. It is not used to monitor other NetBotz devices. You could try it but you'd have to add each OID manually as a supplemental OID. I've never really tried this but it could work.
When using a NetBotz 450, you can not even use the pod sharing feature to monitor another NetBotz appliances's sensors as you noted (you can on the 550, 570 and 455). With the 450, For the best experience, you'd want to add a modem to that unit as well.

Sorry, just tested it. It won't work.
I tried adding a 355 and adding a supplemental OID. First, I had to figure out the OID I wanted so here you can see that I pulled the temperature data via SNMP:
Please note the long string at the end after polling that OID(2641473744). That is the instance. If there were multiple sensors of this type, each would have a different instance. In NetBotz, the instance is always huge like this.
When I tried adding this string as a supplimental OID as you would need to for each individual sensor, I get an error that it is an invalid OID:
I can add it without the instance but no data will be returned in advanced view.

Hi Sven.
I wonder why they want to duplicate the collected data in 2 places? What would be the problem with the BMS people getting access to the data using the DCE (read only?) web and/or Java clients?
Are the monitored devices on the DCE public or private NIC? If public, have you discounted the idea of the BMS monitoring the devices directly via SNMP, i.e. bypassing the DCE altogether? If private, you could consider connecting a second BMS NIC to the DCE private LAN and the BMS could monitor the devices directly, assuming the private LAN can be extended to the BMS and the BMS is capable (many aren't).
Another option would be the use of an intermediate gateway such as the one developed in Australia but this would require both capex and opex budgets.
Cheers
Ed

Apologies, my initial post read "consider connecting a second BMS NIC to the DCE private LAN". I left out the word "NIC". I've updated my entry. I have not lost my marbles (well not all of them)
