Hi Ali,
First, I'd like to note that the DCE client has not been officially tested on Windows 8.1. I don't have an 8.1 VM to test so I'll test on another VM OS. \\vmware-host looks like a network folder. The client should be installed on the local drive only. If your profile on the Windows 8.1 system is linked to a network share, the install will have issues as well, it should be a local profile. You should be able to find some files in the C:\Users\
I installed on a Windows 7 VM with a local profile and DCE installed on the local system and had no errors.

The application is installed in the local drive “C:†within the VM but I don’t understand why it is trying to use the aforesaid location for startup caching. I believe if there is a way to change this somewhere in the configuration file then the application should startup normally. Please check and advise. Also we have another issue on a Windows 7 64 bit machine where the client application will only connect when “Use SSL to Connect†is checked or else we get the below error:

Ali, It may be installed locally but where does your profile reside? This can not be changed by any config file. Steve

Hi, Yes, my profile resides on the C drive within the VM: see the attached file

Ali can you open up a command window in the VM and type "set USERPROFILE" and see if the result is "C:\users\johnmp"? Thanks, Scott

Hi Ali , I'm not that familiar with Windows 8.1, but I'm pretty sure that this issue is due to some sort of configuration within your OS that is telling DCE to try and use the remote share as the configuration directory. The correct way to fix this would be to identify what is pointing to the remote share and redirect it to your User Home folder. As a last resort, I have something you could try as an unofficial fix. First make a copy of the file c:\Program Files\StruxureWare Data Center Expert 7.2.7\dcexpert\DataCenterExpert.ini and back it up somewhere safe. Then take this modified version of the DataCenterExpert.ini file and replace the original. This will hard code the configuration area to your user home directory. It is not really a recommended solution because this actually moves the whole configuration area (which is normally kept in the program files directory), not just the small part that is created in the .eclipse folder. But if you want to try it out you can, it will have no impact on the behavior of DCE server, just how the UI is run and where it stores files. If you go this route then upon uninstall of the DCE UI, there will be files left over that you would need to manually clean up. in c:\
