Relation between NetBotz 450 and DCE

If i have in many sites one NB450 than is collect info from temperature, humidity sensor and SNMP SAI, every NB450 are connected to a DCE (ver. 7.4.2) but alerts are send by NB450 nor from DCE. Is there, any way to make email send of alarm by DCE, may a firmware, ddf.. ?

Hi Miguel,

NetBotz have always sent their own alerts. This has been the case since NetBotz Central. This is still the case. There is no way to make DCE send alerts for NetBotz without re-coding the system. NetBotz are not SNMP or Modbus devices. It is an HTTP communications that sends across XML information and does not use a DDF.

Thanks,

Steve.

Hi Miguel,

Lost comm is different. It is not the same as a breached humidity threshold on the bot. If you have any users on DCE that have rights to view that bot AND their e-mail is configured with their user (either local or in Active Directory), they should receive a lost comm message when DCE can no longer communicate with the bot.

Additionally, just because DCE loses comm with a device does not mean the device itself is unable to alert. It is always possible that there is a network outage between the 2 systems.

Miguel,

There is no policy. If you have a user and If that user has rights to this NetBotz and If he has an e-mail associated when you create the user, he will get an e-mail. No policy necessary.

IN the case shown where Steve is an admin and his user has an e-mail configured, steve@apc.com will get an e-mail if any NetBotz goes off-line. If not an admin, he has to have specific rights to the group/folder where the NetBotz resides.

Steve

That is correct. IF the user has an e-mail and if they have access to the bot, they should receive an e-mail. There has been an enhancement request in to make this more configurable but as of yet, nothing has been added.

Hi Miguel angel solans,

Four years ago I had a similar task. And I successfully solved it as follows (unless of course you do not have many hundreds of NetBotz appliances).

First, all NetBotz appliances must be discovered on the target DCE-server. Since it is impossible for sensors from NetBotz appliances to create Alarm Thresholds in the DCE-server, for each such sensor I created a Virtual Sensor in the DCE-server. Further for each virtual sensor I was able to easily create Alarm Thresholds and configure them accordingly. After checking the functioning of virtual sensors and alarm thresholds, I completely turned off alarm thresholds on all NetBotz appliances. And now all alarms are sent only by one DCE-server, and not by a bunch of NetBotz appliances 😀.

And this solution has been working for a year now.

With respect.

Great. But with state sensor can´t use virtual sensor
