Procedure for configuring SMS Alert through Netbotz Appliance

I would like to share my findings which may be useful for the users who are trying to configure the SMS alert through Netbotz appliance.

Netbotz appliance families 400 and 500 series support USB Modem to send an SMS Alert when alarm occurs for the sensors connected to the appliance.

Please click here to view the supported USB Modem model numbers list.

Step 1: Connect the supported USB modem with SIM inserted to your appliance.

Once the modem is recognized as a serial port by the appliance, use the Advanced View Serial Devices task to specify the modem that is associated with the serial port. Once you specify the modem model, use the
Advanced View PPP/Modem task to configure your appliance for PPP communications.

Step 2: Click on SMS option and click on Status to view Signal Strength and Signal Level.

Step 3: Enter the appropriate details on Basic option such as SIM PIN if applicable & Service Center(SMSC)

Step 4: Select the appropriate character set under Advanced tab option.

Step 5. At this stage, you can configure an SMS Alert under Alert Action option. Alert Action type can be selected for Send Wireless/SMS message when you click on Add option in Alert Action option.

To send a SMS message over the GSM network by using threshold specific address, simply put SMS:the phone number in the address field instead of an email address.

The SMS Alert message can be customized by using Netbotz Macros. The Netbotz appliance Macros list can be found here.

In case if you run through problems and If the USB modem works fine as per USB modem vendor troubleshooting instructions and face problem in configuring SMS alert, then you can try the Netbotz Factory default option and then try configuring the Netbotz appliance. The procedure to reset the Netbotz appliance to factory defaults can be found here

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Bala
