Problem with discovering via IPMI

Hello,

There are no HP servers discovered when I'm trying to discover them using IPMI.

IPMI over LAN was enabled on iLO and local user with Administrator privileges has been created, but discovered server list in DCO is empty. Alternatively, I tried to use ipmitool on my virtual ITO server, but as far as I know ipmitool doesn't work properly with VM. Could you explain how can I adjust IPMI?

Regards.

Hello. When you say ITO and DCO logs are empty, are you saying they are not being collected or they do not contain any errors? It might be helpful if you could collect ITO log files. Do you know who to do this manually? There are two methods for collecting a customer-support.zip file from an IT Optimize server. Method #1 Using the ITO Lite client. * browse to the ITO server web interface at https://:8090/ * You should see a logon window (see below). Logon as apc/apc * click the system settings button in the top right side of the ITO lite view. * from the system settings popup window make sure the "Support" tab is selected. * Click "Download..."... a save-as dialogue will appear. Could take a minute or two depending on how much log information is present on the ITO server * Click "OK" to save the file and send me the results. Method #2: Using the StruxureWare DC Operation client GUI * Logon to the StruxureWare DCO client GUI. * From the "Help" menu, click "Download log files" * choose the destination for the log files folder and click "OK" * Save the results. This can take several minutes to complete. An output folder will be created with the current date/time as its name. * The files can be large, so if you double-click the server-log.zip file to expand it, you can keep expanding sub-folders server and ito. You'll see a customer-support.zip file for each ITO server attached to the StruxureWare host. I only need the customer-support.zip file from the ITO server, I do not need the entire server-log.zip file. If the server-log.zip file is small enough to email, feel free to send the entire zipped file. IPMI discovery problems are usually centered around a few problems one or two of which you may have already covered in your above posting. * You mentioned you're using an administrator account. I assume you can browse to the ILO and logon with those credentials? * Which make and model is the HP server? * What is the firmware version of the ILO card and how old is it(this info is usually present on the ILO status page when you logon to the card)? ILO firmward should be recent ... if possible a 2015 or newer version. * Does the ILO return a serial number when discovery is attempted? * Could there be firewall rules blocking discovery? Have you used the Intel DCM tool to try to manually discover the ILO? I have attached a procedure to do so ... this is similar to using ipmitool.

Hi Greg, Thank you for reply. I found that DCM service has not been installed on server. After installing DCM IPMI works fine, but I have one question about server temperature displaying. As you can see in attached pictures, the temperature displays in DCM but in DCO Server Temperature graph is empty. How can I fix it?

Are you referring to the temp info in the tool-tip in when viewing the ITO overlay in DCO? If you switch to the cooling overlay in DCO does the temp appear on the front of the server? Greg

Ok. As of today, the temp tool-tip info in the ITO overlay is only filled in by the HP OneView integration. A feature request has been submitted to include the inlet temp data from the Intel/DCM integration as well (which is where the IPMI polling data is coming from). If you have HP's OneView product you could use that tool in-place of using ITO to discover your HP server ILO cards. The ITO licensing is still required to see the cpu and temp data when using OneView to discuss and monitor the HP devices. Greg

Thank you for response Greg, I'll try to use OneView. And last question. When I tried to add one of the servers directly to DCM, I've got following error (in attachment). I couldn't find any information what does this error mean.

This node in question is 10.128.216.206? The logs have a number of errors for this asset. Can you tell me more about this asset? Its an ILO? If yes, on which HP server model? Is the firmware on this ILO recent?

I have reached out to the Intel tech support team for some suggestions regarding next step(s). I should note I also found an advisory posted by HP regarding the ILO firmware on this blade. See here: http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5219994&docId=emr_na-c03874400&docLocal... HP recommends using a newer firmware release as the bug can cause the ILO card to end up in a failed self-test state. I will respond after I get feedback.

When you discovered the blade using the DCM GUI, was the item actually discovered even with the error, so the asset's details were visible in the bottom of the discovery screen in DCM? It may be necessary to restart the ILO, is that an option if needed? Greg

Greg Sterling HP OneView does show the graph however it does not display the temperature figure on the front of the server when in the cooling tab. Also is it possible to have some scaling on the graph?

Hello James. Can you send a screenshot regarding the request for scaling so I can better understand what you're looking for? I'm trying to verify your comment regarding lack of temp value on the front of the server when in the cooling overlay. You're referring to an actual rack mounted server, correct? not a blade? If true, I'll log an engineering ticket as we try to be consistent regarding how we present data in the overlays. GregS
