Portal Server with updated Java and Microsoft Visual C++

Hi

We have installed Portal Server on Windows 2012 server. I have been asked from our security team to upgrade the

• JAVA 7 Update 79
• Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable

to their latest versions as both of them have Security Vulnerabilities and need to be upgraded.

I tried to upgrade both Java and Microsoft Visual C++ one by one but portal server stop working as soon as I upgrade any of them.

• Kindly let me know when Portal server with updated Java and Microsoft Visual C++ will be available?
• Is there any chance to get Portal server like DCO and DCE in one package (Operating system and application together)?
• Any option to install Portal server on DCE or DCO server to avoid maintaining three different servers?

Hi Imran,

StruxureWare Portal requires to be installed on a dedicated server.

You are absolutely right, due to the Liferay version, Portal works best with its shipped Java & Microsoft Visual version(s).

I had a brief talks with our product manager, but unfortunately it seems we don't have the bandwidth to update StruxureWare Portal to the latest Liferay platform for the time being. I've been told that it is something we need to look into at some point, but it is not part of the scope at the moment. And since all the data for the portlets is available through web services, then the best advice, if the security vulnerability is concerned, could be to build a dashboard on another platform.

You mean we can use any other software/application to display the DCO and DCE data instead of using Portal server?

If yes than is there any 3rd party application/software is available in market which can display the DCO/DCE data?
