Is there a plan to have the Netbotz 200 firmware include e-mail authentication?
Without the e-mail authentication, e-mail notification not functional for my company, and I suspect for most users.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
The NetBotz 200 is based on the older APC web card (AP9606) which did not have this capability. I believe it is in part due to the lack of resources. The higher level 3xx, 4xx, and 5xx series do have this functionality. I am also aware of a project to replace the 200 going forward but that's not due out till some time next year. This will be based on the NMC2 (AP9635) and will have this functionality. At this time, the only alternative I can suggest would be if you were monitoring the 200 unit(s) with StruxureWare DCE, that system is capable of e-mail authentication and can handle that feature for you. If you only have 5 or less 200 units, you can even use the free download of the StruxureWare DCE virtual machine on the software downloads page.

Another alternative to running Data Center Expert for email alerting exists if you have or can deploy an IIS server. IIS (with the IIS 6 Management Compatibility tools) can run an SMTP Relay site (see the first set of instructions on this page). NetBotz can send email via this relay unauthenticated and then the SMTP relay can authenticate to the next-hop SMTP server. It is best to configure the SMTP Relay service to only accept connections from IP addresses that you know will be sending email via the relay to minimize the chance that your relay is abused by malicious software that may make it into your network.
